It doesn't get any slashier than this. Really. This is the absolute edge of "they-are-SO-doing-it!" without the characters just out and out fucking on screen. Sunny Chan and Alex Fong play two sharp-dressin', ultra-cool assassins who are as close as can be--until a woman comes between them (of course), and they take on the wrong Triad Boss. Sunny ends up being brutally assaulted--we're talking missing fingers and a gang-bang. Not even most hardcore h/c slashers would go this far! This leads to much comforting and angsting as Alex now has to take care of his traumatized buddy, feeding him, washing him, doing everything for him while he takes on small jobs to try to get back in the game. And what would a film like this be without a grand finale where the boys take revenge in a suitably violent, bloody confrontation?
There's nothing really new here except for over-the-top relationship between Sunny and Alex's characters. There's something wrong with the universe if these boys weren't doing it. Sunny and Alex both give convincing performances, and the movie is attractively filmed even when the subject matter is dark and gruesome. If you can stomach some (admittedly cheesy) ultraviolence, this film is a slash-lover's paradise.
SUMMARY:
Overall rating: B+ If it weren't for the slashiness, this wouldn't really be my kind of film, but it's hard to not be mesmerized by these boys.
Droolworthiness: A- Alex and Sunny aren't totally my bad, but they are easy enough in the eyes and certainly dressed well.
Slashiness: A+ You won't believe your eyes, I swear.
Action: C Typical gunplay stuff, which doesn't really move me, and the violence is pretty extreme and only watchable because it's so obviously faked.
