Fight Back to School (Tao xue wei long, 1991)

One of my favorite Stephen Chow films...of course, that might be due to the fact that Stephen in a school boy uniform is just a sight to be treasured and adored for all time. (Who, me shallow?) Stephen is a hotshot cop who has to go undercover as a school student to find his supervisor's stolen gun. Along the way, he hits on the pretty school nurse, makes a few friends, makes a few enemies, and even busts up a gang in the big finale showdown. It's all very silly and plot-lite, but that's alright. It's fluff that goes down easy and Stephen is just so wonderfully pouty and put-out about the whole affair.

SUMMARY:

Overall rating: A- A nice blend of comedy and action, not as absurd as some Chow films and therefore a little easier to take for most audiences.

Droolworthiness: A Stephen in the previously mentioned school uniform. 'Nuff said.

Slashiness: C Not that much, unfortunately. The usual Stephen/Ng Man Tat goofiness and Stephen has some nice moments with some of the young students, but ack, jailbait!

Action: B- There actually are a couple decent fight scenes here and the finale showdown is sufficiently tense.

Pretty, pretty, pretty.
