Pantyhose Hero (Zhi fen shuang xiong , 1990)

Sometimes known as "Odd Couple". By either title, it's an offensive, homophobic, stupid piece of film making. Sammo Hung and Alan Tam are two cops who have to go "undercover" as a gay couple in order to track down who's responsible for a series of murders in the gay community. While it's somewhat amusing to watch them practice hitting on each other ("Me gay. You gay too. Let's gay, okay?") the stereotypes are awful, the humor juvenile, and it's all just...blargh. The worst of it is the way Sammo keeps beating the shit out of any guy who hits on him. The one decent moment where Sammo fights back when a group of cops tries to cause trouble at a gay bar just doesn't redeem the rest of the film.

SUMMARY:

Overall rating: D Stupid homophobic nonsense. Look, I can enjoy politically incorrect humor, but this was just too much.

Droolworthiness: D Sammo and Alan just look like complete dorks in their bad 80's clothes.

Slashiness: F Given the way the complete straightness of the two heroes must constantly be emphasized? No.

Action: B Sammo die-hard fans will not be disappointed by the hard-hitting fight scenes, especially the finale. But that's about the only bases upon which I can recommend this film.
