Police Story 2 (Ging chaat goo si juk jaap, 1988)

This one picks up right after the first movie, so you'd do best to watch "Police Story" first to follow the plot at all (besides, PS1 is one of Jackie Chan's best and not to be missed!) Cop Chan Ka Kui (Jackie) is back, and back in trouble with his girlfriend May, his superiors, and the criminals he tried to put away for good the first time around. What follows is much frentic madness as Ka Kui and May are threatened by the goons, and the police need his help dealing with a mad bomber.

No slash to be found here as the relationship focus is clearly on Ka Kui and May. Angst and hurt/hurt/hurt fans will find much to enjoy, though, especially a rather long scene wherein Ka Kui, stripped to the waist, bound and sweaty, is tortured with tiny snapping bombs of some kind, and then must watch May be tortured in the same way. It's one of those weird, painful scenes that I just can't imagine seeing in a Western film.

PS2 is not quite as shockingly good as the first "Police Story", but it's still a damn fine actioner with some good fights and a seriously "explosive" climax.

SUMMARY:

Overall rating: B+ Fast and furious Jackie.

Droolworthiness: B+ Jackie looks good as usual, not much else to look at though.

Slashiness: F I can't think of anything remotely slashy about it.

Action: B+ Quite good, though I can't say any of the fight scenes have left a real lasting impression on me.

Our suffering hero.
