The Protector (US Version, 1985)

Watching this movie is a quick and easy way, after a heavy diet of HK action, to remind anyone of how sucky American action films can be. Gratuitous nudity, gratuitous swearing, uninspiring action...all around there's very little of redeeming value to be found in this movie. About the only inspiring sequence of note is Jackie running around the massage parlor in his undies--he looks so cute! It's too bad everything around him in this movie is so ugly.

I haven't yet seen Jackie's revised version of the movie, which I hear has at least some merit to it.

SUMMARY:

Overall rating: D

Droolworthiness: A- for Jackie, 'cause he really does look good in this one.

Slashiness: D Jackie and Danny Aiello? Ew.

Action: D The fights are too few and don't show off Jackie's unique abilities much at all.
