Roy stood in the middle of the new Golden Nugget saloon telling
a group of thirsty old miners about the time he had been buried alive up
to his neck and had to dig himself out with just a pair of chopsticks.
His audience listened attentively but didn't seem to understand
what chopsticks were. Roy looked around for Chon, hoping he might
have a pair on his person that he could demonstrate. He scanned the
crowed saloon and finally spotted him huddled in a corner with Daphney,
the newest addition to the chorus line. Their heads were close
together and Roy couldn't tell what the hell was going on, only that
Chon and the dance hall girl were way too close.
Then, as Roy watched, Chon put his arms around her and whispered
something in her ear. Lily took Chon by the hand then and led
him away.
Roy stared at the disappearing couple in frustrated anger, his
lips pursed as he tried to figure out what the hell his partner was
up to. It wasn't until someone tugged on his arm, that he was able
to get back to his story. Roy was forced to endure some good natured
taunting and despite some loud guffaws he managed to finish his
embellished memories.
But his mind was on Chon. He kept checking his watch, wondering just
how long it would take Chon to return. Fifteen minutes went by, then a
half an hour. Roy thought of all the times he had been unfaithful to
Chon and ordered another drink.
Turnabout was fair play. He had no right to complain. He
should feel happy for Chon. Roy finished his drink and ordered
another. This time he told the bartender to leave the bottle and threw
some money on the bar. He was seated at a table by the far end of the
bar, with his chair tilted back so he could lean on the wall. He could
see everyone who came in and everyone who left. Chon was not among
them.
An hour passed and Roy stared to feel afraid. What if this
turned into something? This was Chon after all, he didn't have casual
relationships. He ran a hand through his blond hair nervously
and really began to worry. He tried to figure how long it would
have taken him if he had gone with Daphney instead of Chon. Then he
sighed.
He was a whole lot more experienced than Chon. Of course things
would have gone faster. Unless... Roy groaned aloud at the thought of
Chon and the new girl repeating their lust over and over again. The
image of their naked bodies seemed to be branded into his mind. He
closed his eyes as he cringed at the thought. Then he grabbed the
bottle and took a long swig from it.
He checked his watch again. Two hours! Sweat poured off him as
he realized it was time for him to leave. Roy apparently was not
coming back tonight. Maybe he had fallen asleep. Yes, they had both
probably fallen asleep. He pictured the two sleeping soundly side by
side. It was a vast improvement over the earlier image he had of their
naked twisting bodies slamming into each other over and over again.
He stood slowly and swayed slightly on his feet. He was almost to the
swinging doors when he heard Chon call his name. He stopped, wondering
if he had really heard it, or had he just imagined it?
"Roy!" Chon called eagerly.
Roy turned and one look at the victorious grin on Chon's face
and he felt like he would be sick right then and there. He grabbed the
wall and held on while a wave of dizziness passed.
As Chon neared he sniffed Roy, "Whew! Too much whiskey!" he
complained with a grin.
Roy just nodded unhappily.
Chon slipped his arm around Roy and began to help him home.
"Roy- you'll never believe what happened to me tonight!" he confided
eagerly.
Roy's spirits sagged but he knew he had to keep up a good front,
so he asked, "What happened, partner?"
"The new girl, Daphney? She needed my help!" Chon explained
proudly.
Roy felt the old jealous anger starting to burn in his belly
again. He tried to squelch it unsuccessfully. "Help, huh? And it took
you two hours to help her?" he replied with a curt edge to his voice.
Chon didn't catch the sarcasm. His dark eyes glinting happily, he
continued, "One hour and forty five minutes. It wasn't Daphney that
needed me, it was Lily. Do you know Lily? It was Lily's first time."
The last was confided in a confidential whisper.
The last remark was too much for Roy. He stopped dead in his
tracks and stared hard at Chon through blood shot bleary eyes. He
opened his mouth and tried to speak but words escaped him. He was truly
speechless.
Chon seemed a bit disappointed with Roy's reaction and started
to walk again, but with a little less bounce, tugging Roy along.
Finally Roy could hold back the flood of questions in his mind
no more, "Did it hurt her?" he asked.
Chon turned to look at Roy and grinned proudly as he explained,
"I don't think it hurt her the first three times, but the last time was
another story."
Roy stopped as the words sank into his head. Chon started to
walk away but Roy grabbed him, "FOUR times??" he asked distraught.
"Yes," Roy answered, standing a little taller and looking quite
smug.
"Four times and she never did it before?" Roy asked again in disbelief.
"Never. Daphney says when they're older I can have the pick of
the litter."
"Litter? What litter?"
"Lily's litter. She's Daphney's pug. What did you think I was
talking about?"
A slow grin started on Roy handsome face. It grew and widened
until he was grinning from ear to ear. "Pug? I knew that." Then he
wrapped his arm around Chon and leaned on him a little harder. "Help
me home, partner, I had a rough night."
